We had an amazing time when our friends from the City of Gahanna visited the children and staff at Sullivant Gardens Community Center as part of our Starfish Connect program. They truly brought the fun! Mayor Jadwin, Safety Director Becker, and Chief Spence led a large, enthusiastic team of city employees who spoke to the children about their roles in Gahanna and the exciting career opportunities available to them.
The kids were thrilled to meet Mayor Jadwin. One child amusingly declared that a mayor is like "the queen of the city," which brought a lot of laughter. Beyond the jokes, the children were fascinated by meeting someone who runs a city. Center manager Joshua Carlton shared that the kids were still talking about Mayor Jadwin even after we left and were inspired by the various career paths the city representatives presented, many of which they had never considered before.
In his opening remarks, Director Becker, who grew up on the West Side of Columbus and has dedicated his life to public service, encouraged the children to consider careers not only in Gahanna but also in Columbus and other nearby towns and cities. He emphasized the collaborative nature of these communities and the great opportunities they offer.
The kids had a blast talking with the city employees, asking questions about their jobs, and exploring the big trucks, including a snow plow. It was an incredible event, and we're so grateful to everyone who made it possible. Special thanks to the City of Gahanna and Columbus Recreation and Parks for creating such a memorable experience for everyone involved!
