ASSIGNMENT UPDATE: We were asked to help a single mother and her two daughters. Mom had recently been hospitalized for postpartum depression and is now doing better, but the officers would like to do what they can to get her on firmer footing.
REFERRING OFFICERS: Columbus Division of Police Officers Garrett Kennedy and Kevin Halbur, 11 Precinct (South Central Columbus)
We wanted to give you an interim update about Tina, her 10-year-old daughter, Regina, and 3-month-old baby. The biggest issue, Tina's car, is currently being worked on, and we'll have details on that soon, but we've made some happy progress in other areas.
Our president, Nicole Banks, has been friends with Marcia Orlandi, the owner of Orlandi's Cleaning for more than 15 years. They've supported Starfish from the beginning in many different ways, and when we heard that Tina could use some help with home cleaning, we asked Marcia if her team could assist. She was very excited to be able to lend a hand, saying her "heart was happy."
We don't want to post too many pictures of Tina's apartment because we want to respect her privacy, but you can see the difference. Officer Kennedy said Tina told him that it felt like a huge weight has been lifted off of her.
Officers Kennedy and Halbur also told us that Regina likes to read, so we gave her some Scholastic books, which our friend Officer Dan Snyder took over to her. Officer Kennedy said, "She carries around the books we gave her everywhere she goes. Your organization has done great things for this young family and left a major impact on them."
More to come, friends! This is only the beginning. 💙
