Columbus Division of Police Deputy Chief Tim Becker got to return to his alma mater of Saint Mary Magdalene School Columbus yesterday. He read "Where the Sidewalk Ends" to the fifth graders for our Books & Badges program, and as a special treat, his wife, Detective Julie Becker, came as well. She is also a CPD officer, but she is assigned to an FBI public corruption task force, so she brought FBI activity books for the children.
Chief Becker talked to the children about his career at CPD, his time at Saint Mary Magdalene, and answered their questions about policing. He also showed them all the items on his duty belt and signed each of their books, which they all got to take home.
The kids also got to vote on whether or not he should keep his new beard. (They said overwhelmingly said yes.)
Thank you to Officer Scott LaBrake for organizing this event. Officer LaBrake not only patrols the area around Saint Mary Magdalene, but he has volunteered here for years.
