Books & Badges: Valley Forge Elementary

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of doing a Books & Badges reading at Valley Forge Elementary School. The school hosts an after-school service club that does a host of community projects such as stuffing blessing bags and making gifts for senior citizens. Yesterday, their teachers gave THEM a treat for all their hard work-- Columbus Division of Police Lieutenant Chris Lieb read "Amazing Tigers" to them and every student received a copy to take home.

Since the book explains that each tiger has stripes that are unique to them, Lt Lieb taught them about fingerprints and how their fingerprints are unique to them. He gave each of them a little magnifying glass to keep so they could examine their own fingers (and each others'), which was quite fun.

He then answered their questions about policing, which ranged from "what do you do when you're working" to "what is that on your belt" to the ever-popular "do you like donuts." They are a wonderful group of children and could have asked him questions for another hour, we're pretty sure.

Thank you for having us, Valley Forge, and thank you for instilling community service into your amazing students!
