Yesterday, our summer block party series with Columbus Division of Police and Columbus Recreation and Parks Department may have been cut short by showers, but it certainly wasn't any less memorable! We managed to pack a lot of fun into a short time and are immensely grateful to everyone who contributed to making it a fantastic event.
In a Starfish first, WSYX ABC 6 reporter Jeremiah Wilcox bravely took on the dunk tank and was dunked live on air! Many enthusiastic volunteers stepped up to do the honor, but one little girl was especially thrilled to accomplish the feat.
We were joined by community partners who helped educate, provide resources, and even clean up trash—shoutout to Hilltop Connections for their dedication! The Columbus Division of Fire brought their Safety House, and the RREACT team was also present. AEP Ohio thrilled attendees with bucket truck rides and had THREE trucks there!
It was great to see familiar faces from the FBI, the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, Gahanna Division of Police, the City of Columbus, Columbus Department of Neighborhoods, and Columbus Department of Public Safety. So many wonderful interactions!
Special thanks to the various CPD units that showed up to connect with the community. The K-9 unit arrived in force with three officers, and we were visited by SWAT, the CPD Therapy Dog Unit, CPD Recruiting, and the 614 Cadets (who helped a ton, as always!). We were also happy to see officers from Zone 1 (North Columbus) and Zone 6 (Linden) drop by, and even get in the dunk tank! Kudos to the 88 wagon for their impressive grill-hauling skills. Our friends from the Helicopter Unit tried to come say hi, but there simply wasn't any room for them. Next block party!
A big thank you to our sponsor, Byers Airport Subaru, for helping provide the food and prizes. It truly was a party for the ages and one we will not forget.
As we reflect on this summer, we are filled with gratitude for all the individuals, organizations, and agencies who have joined us and helped make these events possible. Your contributions and involvement have fostered a stronger sense of community and connection. We appreciate all the support we've received and the friendships we've made, and we look forward to building upon them in the future. Thank you for an unforgettable summer!
