Today, we had the incredible opportunity to deliver a scooter to Terry, a Marine Corps veteran and crime victim, who shared with us the harrowing story that led us to him. While attempting to go to the store, Terry faced a terrifying encounter with a man who not only used a racial slur against him but also threatened him with a knife. After Terry defended himself, the man drove his truck towards Terry, hitting and destroying his scooter, and leaving him with multiple physical injuries and without transportation.
This is where Officers Jeremy Smith, an Army veteran himself, and Amanda Hoover from the Columbus Division of Police stepped in. Touched by Terry's story, they contacted us, eager to help in any way they could.
Thanks to a generous donation from Byers Airport Subaru we were able to provide Terry with a brand new scooter that's even better than the one he had before! He now has a stable, four-wheel model, replacing his previous three-wheel scooter that often tipped over.
It's moments like these that remind us of the power of community, compassion, and the incredible impact we can have when we come together to support one another.
