Starfish Assignment is honored and thrilled to announce the addition of Columbus Division of Police Deputy Chief Tim Becker to our Board of Directors as an Executive Vice President. DC Becker has been an active member of and advocate for Starfish since last year, participating in many of our activities, to include our Christmas Gift Bag Stuffing, the AEP Ohio Coat Drive, and multiple Books & Badges events.
DC Becker was born and raised in Columbus and is proud of his Hilltop roots. He joined the Columbus Division of Police in 1988 and rose through the ranks to his current position overseeing criminal investigators. DC Becker was a trailblazer for his family in the field of law enforcement, and now has many relatives working with him at CPD, including his lovely bride. He is the father of three sons, two of which serve in the National Guard, and a third who keeps him young.
DC Becker obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism from The Ohio State University, and a Master’s Degree in Public Safety Leadership from Capella University, where he graduated with Distinction. He has completed multiple police leadership courses, including the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command and the FBI National Academy.
What is dear to our hearts is that he has had a plaque on his office wall reminding him of the Starfish parable since 2001, and embraces the opportunity to help others give back to the community he loves. He is attracted to positivity and those who not only make a difference, but also willingly share their smile with others. Therefore, the Starfish Assignment is a perfect fit!

One day a man was walking along a beach when he noticed a boy picking up starfish and throwing them into the ocean. He asked the boy what he was doing.
“Throwing starfish into the ocean,” the child replied. “The surf is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them back in, they’ll die."
The man laughed. “How can you possibly hope to make a difference? There are miles of beach here, and hundreds, if not thousands of starfish washed up onto it.”
The boy listened politely, then bent down and gently tossed another starfish into the surf. He smiled at the man and said, “I made a difference to that one.”
We might not be able to change the world, but we can definitely make a difference for one person, and that's what we try to do.
