SECOND ASSIGNMENT UPDATE: In early 2020, we were asked to give belated Christmas presents, including basketball shoes, to a 14-year-old boy who witnessed a horrific act of violence committed by his father against his mother.
REFERRING OFFICERS: Columbus Division of Police Officers Mancini and Hicks, 14 Precinct, Far East Side.
In our first assignment update, posted on January 12, 2020, we wrote about how we went shopping with Marcus* and CPD Officers Mancini, Hicks, Reynolds, and Shapiro. Thanks to your donations, we were able to buy him many wonderful items and still ended up with $548.04 that we decided to save for a later day. Fourteen-year-old boys grow very quickly, so we thought it would be fun if he could have two shopping trips instead of one.
Well, that shopping trip was this week! This time he got Nike sneakers, compression pants for basketball, socks, two video games, and Airpods. Ofc Reynolds also treated him to lunch afterward. (The other officers are part of the Summer Safety Initiative and weren't able to make it.) We've concealed his identity in the photos to protect his and his mother's privacy.
Thank you all for your donations. It's so nice to be able to help officers and families in this way, and we appreciate you making it possible.
*We've changed his name to protect his privacy.
